What is a Regular Height Golf Bag
- or Generic Height?
Our definition is: a golf bag is considered a regular
height golf bag (or generic
height) if it
is not specifically designed for ladies. The simplest explanation is: a regular golf bag is designed
to hold men's golf clubs.
Men's golf clubs are usually 1" longer than ladies
standard length, 2" longer than ladies petite length, and the same length
as ladies long.
The bottom line is a guy would probably only want to play with what we
have defined as a regular golf bag. A woman, however, could play with a
regular golf bag or a ladies bag. Many women don't feel that the
difference in height is consequential unless they have
petite length clubs.
What is a Ladies Golf Bag?
At the annual PGA golf merchandise show, we walked up to an exhibitor
with some beautiful leather golf bags and asked to see their ladies' bags.
He looked at us like we were from Mars. His reply - what's a ladies
bag? .. We just make one size golf bag.
There is no standard. Each manufacturer does their own thing.
However, a ladies golf bag "may" be one inch shorter than one not
designated as a Ladies Golf Bag. Just as ladies clubs in regular
length are one inch shorter than men's regular length, ladies
golf bags
can be one inch shorter.
On the other hand, a golf bag manufacturer may just decide to use a
feminine fabric on the same regular height golf bag body and call that a ladies'
bag.
If you play with petite length clubs, you probably do want a ladies
height golf bag. If you play with ladies regular length or ladies
long, a regular golf bag may work well. Just understand the
differences height plus the diameter of the top.
What is the difference in sizes of the top - e.g., 7ѕ" or 10"?
This is how the top is measured. Golf bags start at small - 6"
diameter to hold a few clubs - and go to 13" diameter for a huge
staff bag. Generally women will play with an 8" to a 9" diameter -
although some like more, and some like less. If you are unsure of
what the size means, measure the golf bag top that you currently own to
see what size it is - and count how many clubs you play with.
Use that as a guide when purchasing a new bag - e.g.,
do you want a larger diameter, the same, or smaller. 7 1/2
inch diameter is at the small end - 9 1/2 inch
diameter is on the large end for the average woman
Do I want a stand bag or cart bag?
Are you ever going to walk a course? If so, a stand bag will work
on a cart, but you would never want to carry a cart bag because of the
extra weight inherent in a cart bag - and the lack of a good dual strap.
Simply put - a stand bag is designed to be lightweight; a cart bag is
designed with function as the first criteria and weight as a secondary criteria. Some of us elect to
carry a standbag - even though we don't walk the course - because it is
lighter. Add an average of 1 pound per club - and you will have your
estimated total weight (assuming empty pockets).
Why are some golf bags so heavy?
The golf bag designers design stand bags to be light - and cart bags to
be full of features and pockets - so the Cart Bags will usually be much
heavier than the Stand Bags. The more
features a cart bag has, the more it weighs. It is our observation
that ladies cart bags with an organizer top will always weigh more -
regardless of the manufacturer - but this goes back to "more features and
function, more weight"
